What to expect at French campsites

Facilities have improved enormously in the last decade. Many sites now feel like small villages with everything on site.

Wi-Fi & connected pitches

Most campsites offer free or paid Wi-Fi, plus electric hook-ups for tents, caravans and campervans.

Showers & laundry

Clean shower blocks, family bathrooms, washing machines and dishwashing stations are standard on 3-star+ sites.

Pools, restaurants & entertainment

Many sites have heated pools, kids' clubs, evening entertainment, bakeries and on-site restaurants.

Locations near the action

Cycle routes, beaches, lakes, markets and walking trails are often within easy reach of the pitch.

Booking tips

Plan the perfect pitch

  • Book early for July, August and school holidays — coastal sites fill first.
  • Check the site rating (1–5 stars): 4- and 5-star sites usually have pools and better facilities.
  • Midweek arrivals and longer stays are cheaper than peak weekends.
  • Many campsites accept caravans, campervans and tents; some have ready-to-camp lodges and mobile homes.
  • Camping-Car sites (aires) are designed for motorhomes with services and waste disposal.
