The Best Time to Visit France, Month by Month

March to May is the sweet spot: warm cities, green valleys, wildflowers in Provence and comfortable evenings on the coast. September to November is nearly as good and slightly quieter.
June to August is busy on the coast — Nice and Cannes can be crowded. Head inland instead: the Loire Valley, Lyon and Bordeaux stay pleasant, with plenty of shaded terraces.
December to February brings snow to the Alps and cold, clear nights in the countryside. It is the best time for skiing and low-season pricing, but pack properly for the mountains after dark.
